New Single: Paint a Flower in the Sky

Paint a Flower in the Sky Cover

One day I asked my daughter Mara what she was drawing: “Oh, I’m just painting flowers in the sky” she answered.

Another day, after a very sick night, she said to me in the morning: “Don’t worry about it Dad – when I am sick at night, my angel comes and takes me for a ride”. And so she gave me the first line of the lyrics, too.

Available on iTunes and Amazon. Just look for the song title, by Roses on a Beach. Here’s a direct link to the song on Amazon.com

Please let me know if you like the song, and if you like it, please pass it on.

Blend for HTML Build Talk: Video and Demo Online

My talk on Blend for HTML, given at the Build conference yesterday, is now online. In the demo, I create the UI for a simple casual memory game, beginning with clean, UI-free, semantic markup and the backing JavaScript code that goes with it. From early 90’s browser look to Metro-style in less than an hour :-)

I also posted matching demo files in the VS sample gallery, in case you want to play with the demo app, or if you want to try building the UI yourself.

The video is here.

The demo files are here.

Have fun!

Expression Blend… for HTML

We have been very hard at work on a new project that we could not talk about – until today. In today’s keynote at Microsoft’s Build conference, we have shown an exciting new flavor of Expression Blend: Blend for HTML, to create Metro-style user interfaces for Windows 8 using HTML, CSS and JavaScript.

Blend for Windows Phone: Update Available

We have just published refreshed bits of the Blend Add-In for Windows Phone and the Blend SDK for WIndows Phone. You can now use these bits with the Blend 4 RC build and the VS2010 RTM bits. Of course you also need the latest version of the phone development tools too.

Spotted First SketchFlow Prototype in the Wild :)

I spotted my first SketchFlow prototype running on a public-facing web site (without the player, but with a description): http://www.silverlightbuzz.com/

One note: If you like running storyboards as part of a screen, also consider using Visual States, form the States pane. It is often much quicker to define the various states of a screen using the States pane, and then use the automatic transitions for states to create the animation. This also lets you have indpendent animations during the “hold time” of a state, which is really powerful…

Welcome to electric beach

I make software tools for artists for a living. Today, I work on software for user experience design. Before that, my toys have been high-end video editing and compositing systems (including Jaleo, Softimage|DS, and Avid Liquid). I have also been involved with 3D animation and music software, and with an early web video effort during the first dotcom bubble.
