about electric beach

Welcome to the electric beach, where articles on software product design, user experience, Microsoft Expression, Silverlight, WPF, and other related areas are floating on the waves of the Net for you. While I unfortunately cannot provide sun, sand and sea, I have some original music for your enjoyment.

I make software tools for artists for a living. Today, I work on software for user experience design. Before that, my toys have been high-end video editing and compositing systems (including Jaleo, Softimage|DS, and Avid Liquid). I have also been involved with 3D animation and music software. I am a toolmaker out of passion - the right tools give wings to our imagination and let us create things way beyond what our hands can achieve.

Over the years I have had the opportunity to see many aspects of software development hands-on, including product design, development, various levels of management, CTO-style work, and business and strategy planning.

My educational background is mostly in music, and I still write music when I can. See the music page on this site, but entry is at your own peril. You have been warned.

I am part of the Expression team at Microsoft – a wonderful team, talented and passionate. Our mission is to deliver tools that enable designers to create outstading user experiences. We want to push boundaries with our own tools, but even more we want to enable the creative community to do so. See what we do at:

www.microsoft.com/expression

Within the Expression team, I am responsible for product planning and definition of Expression Blend and Design, and for long term product strategy of the Expression suite as a whole.

I hope you enjoy the electric beach.

  1. I believe Blend is one of the best MS products since v1, its incredible what you can do with WPF and Silverlight. These days I´ve been playing around with the trial version of Blend 3 + SketchFlow, Sketch is very cool. I can’t wait to see future versions of these tools. Thanks!!, you and your team are doing an amazing job. I found your blog while I was looking for more SketchFlow information, now its on my -read everyday- list :)
